who they are;;
Sameer is a djinni, the oldest imaginings of a modern day "genie". He was conceived some millenniums ago by a wish and a laugh and has been on the mortal plane since. Djinnis belong naturally to a secondary plane, where they can reside comfortably in their original forms and watch the goings-on of the mortals without being seen. Their true forms are far more spiritual than physical and are unable to be touched. If he shed the physical form he keeps to fit in among the mortals he would be unbearable to look upon, a gout of blinding white light. Mortals are not meant to see them as they were made. Because Sameer's current body is not his true body he does experience occasional disconnect between it and him, especially when it comes to pain. While iron is a notable exception to that (as it burns his True Form as well) when his human body is hurt he sometimes doesn't realize it for hours at a time. Once the wound is seen it's felt, although not at the same capacity as a wound sustained to his actual form. This means he has a high pain tolerance.
As a djinni Sameer is capable of great magical feats, though he is limited in what he can do for himself. His true abilities become obvious when he grants a wish a mortal proposes; it is then that he can manipulate time and energy and the fabric of the universe itself. When fulfilling a wish Sameer's magic knows no bounds. Now that he is free on the mortal plane he can choose whether or not to grant a wish although he did not have that freedom when he was imprisoned. When he is performing magic for himself he can only do small, harmless things, which infuriates Sameer to no end. These magics include generating money from no discernible origin and wishing up clothes and other material objects. It does not include food or anything intangible, such as 'fame' or 'love', not that Sameer would ever bother with something like that.
He had been imprisoned in an iron urn for nearly as long as he can remember and given the name 'Sameer', a sort of calling card for the next mortal to happen across his urn and urge him out. Originally he did not have a name, but Sameer keeps his name still as the idea of being nameless again frightens him. As djinnis cannot stand the touch of iron his confinement was not a comfortable one, and he still shies away from larger cities with their humming iron buildings and their shrieking iron tracks. His urn was broken during his last Calling and he is thus imprisoned on the mortal plane--his only way home would be for a mortal to wish for his freedom, which Sameer can't imagine happening anytime soon.
theme song;; Everybody Wants To Rule The World (cover) by Lorde
personality;;
selfish || condescending || flippant || arrogant
Naturally Sameer believes that he is better than every mortal ever, on the basis that at least he doesn't have to deal with the same boring humdrum wash of life that mortals do. He's almost painfully arrogant and unfortunately righteously so; Sameer is, after all, very striking in looks and personality, and he does have the capacity for incredible magical feats. That being said, Sameer has a tendency to lie about what all he can do, and he most especially does not confess to anybody that his magic is severely limited when he is doing something for himself. Only in a selfless act can Sameer reach his full potential, which rankles him enough to keep the truth on the down-low. He maintains his physical body well and is careful with making sure his hair is looking good. Thankfully his true form is not at all connected to this physical one and so he is able to manage some how he looks; he has enhanced his natural appearance and allowed his metabolism to speed up to something to rival the Flash's. Thus he's able to gorge on candy, something that he very much likes to do.
He only really does things that directly benefit him, and he is really rather selfish. He only does things that benefit him, and this includes the few friends he makes; he cultivates them singularly for some reason or another, but the reason is always for him. For example, Sameer is friends with a man who runs a candy shop, and Sameer effectively uses him for access to candy, especially the weird and foreign kinds that would be hard to get elsewhere. Sameer maintains their friendship not because he genuinely likes the guy but because he likes the candy, and he likes that by them being friends Sameer gets a sizable discount. Sameer is very intelligent but he's a little far behind on the technology of today; he has to work a lot with the newer cellphones to keep up with them and even with some patience Sameer gets easily frustrated and annoyed. (While he would never accept someone telling him this, he responds to technology like most old people do.)
