who they are;;
Eione is a Nereid. Greek mythology always implied that the sea nymphs were singularly female but Eione knows personally that isn't true. While there are very few male Nereids (out of the fifty children of Nereus and Doris, only two were male) they do exist. With his sisters Eione lives in his parents' enormous golden palace beneath the sea, although he left the ocean some twenty years ago to better explore the shore. Eione is capable of being away from the ocean although he does require some hydration at least once a day. Should he miss it he becomes somewhat sluggish and tired; his reflexes are dramatically affected and he's prone to dozing off. He is capable of being underwater for long periods of time although it's not so much that he has gills but rather that he "breathes" through his skin, much like amphibians do.
He has a special affinity with water and has some meager control over it, although it is nothing close to what some might imagine. Eione can smooth water out or worsen the seas. His abilities are greatly affected by his mood, and as Eione's mood is as fickle as his affections it's something of a trick to gauge what he is going to do. Like all Nereids, Eione's skin is weird to touch and is incredibly smooth one way and rough the other. His skin is meant to mimic that of sharks to ease his progress through water though people usually chalk it up to some sort of lingering rug burn they're feeling. When pet the 'wrong' way Eione feels kind of sandpaper-y. His hair dries very quickly but remains malleable even when soaking wet. He has to keep himself wet internally as well as externally and so he's always drinking something, more often than not water. He has no preference over temperature or general salinity and can tolerate saltwater as well as fresh.
Eione weighs in at about 350 pounds due to his unusually thick bones. It's probably a natural guard against the pressure of the deep seas, but it does get annoying sometimes on land. While Eione can easily survive a trek to the bottom of the ocean he has to skip on elevators lest his added weight outstrip the limitations on the machine. Eione is also stronger than the average man, both to be able to support his own body weight and so he can swim faster and with greater ease. The thicker bones do help prevent him from breaking something when he falls, however. Also to help aid him with deep-sea exploration Eione's eyes have been specially evolved to allow him to see in the dark. His pupils are able to widen out and engulf his entire iris, allowing Eione to see when there's very little light. His blood is a dark bluish-violet color because of how little oxygen it holds, and when he bruises it always blooms black. It should be noted that when Eione blushes his cheeks go a tad lilac, but thankfully he doesn't blush often.

It's not wrong to compare Eione to the sea, but it's not quite as romantic of an analogy as one might think. He's incredibly mercurial; he's quick to anger and quick to calm. He reacts differently to different things on a day to day basis. Sometimes he can't stand annoying noises and some days he's the one making the annoying noises. He's very, very moody, but thankfully he's generally in a good mood. Although he has a short fuse he forgives and forgets easily. He does not have the patience to hold grudges (with the sole exception of polluters) and it's too much energy to be irritated for long. He does have a tendency to heckle litterers and people who pollute. Eione is constantly making problems for oil rigs as well by breaking whatever he can get his hands on underwater. He adores his family and goes back to his birthplace often to visit his sisters and one darling brother; he's close to his parents as well and the majority of the Greek pantheon. He gets annoyed at small inconveniences.
While Eione is incredibly graceful in the water he's clumsy as a newborn fawn on land. He's always tripping over things or his own feet or a particularly strong breeze. When he gets excitable he hugs people without much warning; he also has a tendency to trip more because he's not watching his feet as much. Eione is the sort to get excited and slap at people's arms or chests or whatever. He's surprisingly intelligent but his knowledge is really limited to things in the sea or the water; while he can name every single creature and coral in the ocean he doesn't have much of a capacity to remember bird species. Eione loves salty foods and doesn't like sweet things that much. He puts an ungodly amount of salt on pretty much everything served to him, usually enough to make Cuan's mouth twist up even. Eione is very expressive and is terrible at lying and concealing his feelings. Unfortunately this means he's also terrible at telling white lies, so he accidentally hurts feelings quite often.
backstory;;
Eione has been around for a long long time. He has seen the rise and fall of many kingdoms, and has watched impassively as monarchies tumbled down and countries burned. Eione has spent the majority of his life in the sea; as a child he had little interest for the land and humans, and when he grew older while he was more prone to exploring the beaches he still shied from humans. Their strange culture and loud voices, their propensity to violence; Eione simply did not like them. He lived for a couple of lifetimes on land, on little islands or in coastal communities, where his frequent trips to the ocean would not be questioned. Eione would not pretend to be human very well although over time he got better. He still preferred the company of his family and the pressure of the sea, and he tired of humans after a few years. The ocean would always be his home.
Eventually, however, Eione ran out of things to see. He'd explored the ocean, seen places humans could not even dream of, named species for himself that a civilization may not "discover" for generations. While Eione adored his sisters and his brother and his parents he did find himself yearning for the culture of the earth; and when eventually he surfaced, some lifetimes after his last adventure on the coast, humanity had changed once more. Eione found himself attracted to this odd, complicated world; he was not planning on staying until he saw an oil rig pumping excretions into the sea, however, and then his mind was made up. He could not wipe out all of humanity, not without help, so he would change the species from the inside out, he thought.
That did not last long. Eione was unfamiliar with the humans' culture and he could not find a foothold among them for some time. The idea of a job disgusted him and he ran into Sameer quite on accident. He did not recognize him for what he was; nymphs are not born with an innate ability to recognize other supernatural beings, and apparently neither are djinnis. When eventually Eione made a mistake and revealed his powers (by neatly severing a leak in the faucet that was annoying him) Sameer invited him to stay. (That's what Eione will say, anyway. In reality the conversation was far more involved than that, and Sameer insisted for about two weeks that Eione get out of his house.)
He now lives on the coast in Sameer's home and shares a room with Cuan. He vanishes sometimes for days upon end, goes into the sea and comes back refreshed and shining and with his eyes so red they seem like rubies. He doesn't really explain where he goes or what he does, and neither housemate asks. Eione is more at home among the humans these days but he is attracted to those people who know what he is and do not shy away from him, so he spends most of his time with Sameer and Cuan. If he's not with them he's yelling about recycling and anonymously threatening giant oil companies.
