who they are;;
Cuan is a werewolf, but he wasn't born one. Rather he was bitten when he was 14, and became a werewolf upon the next full moon. With this disease comes a handful of pros and a long list of cons, but Cuan has always been the sort to look on the bright side. As lycanthropy is incurable, he has contented himself with his lot in life. Being a werewolf has given Cuan dramatically increased senses, most specifically smell and taste although eyesight and hearing have always been exemplified. Cuan is quite sensitive to smells and sneezes often to clear his palette; when he's tracking someone or trying to memorize a scent he opens his mouth and uses the new Jacobson's organ at the roof of his mouth to better detect it. Due to this he rarely has his mouth open unless he's trying to smell something or he's out of breath and panting.
He has some characteristics of a dog or wolf in that he cocks his head when he's hearing something interesting and that he has a tendency to pant when he's overheated. He literally rolls over and shows his belly to people in his pack and is comfortable being touched there by those he considers above him (currently that's Sameer and Eione). Cuan has the ability to bite someone and infect them so he's incredibly careful about putting his mouth on anything; he shies away from romantic relationships for precisely this reason, as even nicking someone's lip while kissing them could possibly infect them with lycanthropy. Cuan would never inflict a life such as this on anyone.
The closer it is to the full moon the more out of control Cuan gets. It's almost as if the closer the moon is the closer his instincts are to the surface of his mind; the day before the full moon he reacts reflexively and aggressively to everything. He has a tendency to act more "animal" than human a few days prior. After the full moon he often stays home for a day or two to recuperate, as the transformation is exhausting and his human skin feels itchy and pulled too tight. Cuan is able to transform into his wolf form whenever he would like, but he feels pressured to do so on the full moon. It's almost as if his human body is too small for him, and he must become a wolf to find relief. He is in full control while in wolf form although he can be more animalistic on the full moon. New werewolves often struggle with control, especially while wolf, as their animal instincts encourage them to be more violent and possessive.

Cuan is deceptively submissive. He willingly shows his throat to anyone and everyone; Cuan is most comfortable nestled in at the bottom of the hierarchy. He has little patience for people who are like him however, and purposefully seeks dominant personalities to attach himself to (this neatly explaining his attraction to Sameer). He's content to be quite lazy but has a high metabolism as many of his kind do and eats a lot. He's the sort to root through the fridge at two am in search of anything to sleepily nibble on. He has no issues with eating in bed (in fact he rather prefers it, and then sleeps on the floor anyway). Cuan is warm and soft and affectionate and likes physical connection with those he trusts but he shies away from strangers who reach for him like a kicked dog. He displays a lot of canine-esque body language around humans without conscious thought; he has a tendency to avoid looking someone in the eye and tilts his head back when he's meeting someone to effectively show his throat (ie declare his submission to them without a fight).
Cuan's patience and softness ends when someone he's attached to is in danger. He's absolutely mindless when he's protecting someone else; in these instances the power he hides inside is unleashed in a fight. He's brutal and merciless if it comes down to someone else and someone he considers a friend. He puts someone down and kills them so they can't get back up; the sole exception to this would be another werewolf, who Cuan knows would respect getting beaten. He certainly doesn't trust humans getting the message. That being said, while Cuan has no moral issues with killing someone, if he's attached on his own he won't fight back. He's entirely pacifist on his own behalf, almost dangerously so. In a pack Cuan functions as the omega, but he's incredible in a fight when he's fighting for someone else. He likes to cook and uses his heightened sense of smell and taste to cook mind boggling meals. Cuan has a tendency to sneeze because of the heightened senses and tends to carry around a patterned handkerchief for these instances.
backstory;;
Not all of the stories are true. Cuan was raised in a human household by human parents; he went to school and got good grades and played basketball with his friends. He lived a careless, uniform life like many of the children in his suburban paradise. He did not think past whatever homework assignments were due in the next month. When Cuan was 14 years old he was bit by a stray dog. It was quite a nasty injury; Cuan remembers the sensation of his heartbeat pulsing beneath his skin as he walked home, t-shirt pressed to his hand to hold the flesh together. He eventually recuperated although he lost some sensation in the hand, and the flexibility of his thumb on his left hand all but vanished. He did not notice anything was amiss until his first full moon, when he woke up naked in the backyard with the taste of blood in his mouth. Cuan's transformation only began there.
He was discovered by a local pack who had a teacher at his school and was approached for a discussion. While Cuan had yet to say the word werewolf aloud a part of him already knew what was happening, so he wasn't surprised or resistant to the idea. The men told him he would need to run away from home, move in with the pack. They said a newly turned werewolf is a terrible, dangerous thing. Cuan didn't feel dangerous and he loved his parents something fierce, but he changed his mind two days before the full moon, when his mother reached to take his plate from him and he snapped at her hand with his teeth. He packed a bag and ran away, and moved in with the pack, a rowdy, mostly male bunch who Cuan didn't like much at all. He abandoned the name he'd been born with and took to "Cuan" when the pack beta called him that out of habit, remarking that he reminded him of an old friend. Cuan didn't find out what it meant for years.
When he was 17 and had more control over himself he moved from his first pack and found a small apartment in Chicago. He approached the local pack and found a collection of people he felt at home with; the alpha, a woman called Charlene, took him under her wing and taught him how to fight. Cuan learned to channel the wolf's anger into protecting someone he cared for and found refuge in that. He worked as a busboy in Charlene's restaurant and lived with the pack up until last year, when a hunter found them. Cuan had heard tell of people such as the man who slaughtered his pack but he had never seen one for himself, and he'd figured them more as boogeyman than as an actual threat. He killed every wolf who came for him and would have killed Cuan as well had Charlene not demanded he run. "Get far from here," she'd said, "And get revenge for us."
Cuan had run then, run until he stumbled onto Sameer and Eione and recognized the two of them for what they were. (Djinnis smell like sand, he'd explained, and nymphs like saltwater.) He moved in with Sameer and kept his head down but he's been researching the hunter who killed his pack and is committed to tracking the man down and murdering him for what he did to Cuan's family. His protective instincts have thus expanded to Sameer and Eione as well now, and he considers them pack despite their species.
